Where to start with the guitar?

Everyone is different when they pick up the guitar. Some people learn how to play straight away, and dont want to do anything else but play play play! Some people struggle and let it sit in the corner gathering dust, then pick it up, and then it goes to the corner again.

The main thing you should know about playing any type of instrument, is that its meant to be fun! But like anything else in life, if you want to get good at something, you need to practise, practise and practise more.

Even the guitar greats didnt just pick up the guitar and played some terrifying solo, they practise intensly, some even 12 plus hours a day.

If you want to be the best guitar player ever, you need to give up every other interest, and jst practise the guitar all the time, but I dont know about you, I play guitar for fun, yes I want to be able to play like Jimi Hendrix, or Steve Vai, but I know Im not going to get there unless I want to practise all the time, but at the moment 30 min to a couple of hours a day, is all I put into it.

So my first lesson for everyone is this, understand that youre not going to be a super star on the guitar unless youre willing to put the time and effort into it. It doesnt play itself, you need to learn everything you want to know about it. Start slow, lots of basic excercises, and work your way up to the level you wish to achieve.

The best thing about the guitar is that no-one knows everything! We all develop our own techniques, and no two people usually play the same.
